Hannah Taylor won a gold medal and was named outstanding juvenile wrestler at the Canadian cadet/juvenile wrestling championships during the weekend in Calgary.
The Summerside native and Wolfpack Wrestling Club member was competing in the 60-kilogram division.
Also reaching the podium with silver medals in cadet were Daniel Moase in the 42-kilogram freestyle division and Noah Daley in the 85-kilogram freestyle category. Moase trains with the Wolfpack while Daley is with the Island Wrestling Academy in Charlottetown.
Ben Tanton finished fifth in the 54-kilogram cadet division while Clay Campbell was sixth in the 58-kilogram cadet division. Both train with the Wolfpack.
Island Wrestling Academy’s Christian MacDonald finished fourth in the 63-kilogram juvenile men’s category.
Also participating were R.J. Blue and Trey VanColen from the Red Rock Wrestling Club in Montague and Zachary MacNevin from the Island Wrestling Academy. The coaches were Megan Morrison and Nik Cummins.
The championships took place at the University of Calgary.
Cummins said he was very pleased with the team results.
“Many of these athletes are prospective Canada Games wrestlers and we are excited about their potential,” said Cummins, who is P.E.I.’s Canada Games coach.
